From Monday August 20th, Wexford Bus is introducing a revised route and new timetable to the people of Wexford Town. After considerable deliberation and assessment of traffic, Wexford Bus is amending the Wexford Bus Connect Route around Wexford Town. The result is that a higher proportion of the town will have access to the bus and it is expected to bring a greater level of reliability to the service. Also, the frequency of services between Redmond Square and Clonard will be increased from twice hourly to three times per hour with services leaving Redmond Square approximately every 20 minutes.
What changes are involved? There will still be 2 buses in operation, which will now be operating on 2 distinctive routes.
- Route WX1 The Drinagh Loop, this service will start and finish in Redmond Square and will travel to Drinagh Retail Park via The Quays, William Street and The Rosslare Road. The bus will then journey back to Redmond Square via Whiterock, Richmond Drive, The Loreto, Clonard Village, Clonard Rd, Coolcotts and Newtown Road.
- Route WX2 The Clonard Loop this service will start and finish in Redmond Square and will travel from Redmond Square towards Clonard Retail Park serving The Newtown Road, Coolcotts and Clonard Road on its way. The bus will then journey back to Redmond Square via Whitemill Road, Summerhill, Distillery Road, The Faythe, and The Quays.
Wexford Bus has refined the routes and schedules with workers, school goers and shoppers in mind. Route WX1 operating The Drinagh Loop is travelling via the new Loreto and Route WX2 The Clonard Loop is close to The Presentation School, St Peters College & Carlow Institute of Technology Wexford Campus.
The same Low Fares will still apply on the new improved service so Wexford Bus is inviting the people of Wexford town to leave their cars at home and try the bus for themselves. With Leap Cards, Adults can travel across town on the bus for only €1.80 per journey and children for only 90 cent. Weekly ticket holders can benefit from unlimited travel within the town for only €7.50 for children or €15 for adults per week with a Leap Card.
Wexford Bus is proud of this new extensive service “We have seen the popularity of the Wexford Bus Connect town service grow over the past number of years. We would like this to continue and are introducing these adjustments to bring the service to a larger portion of the towns population and also to bring greater reliability to the service. Traffic congestion in Wexford Town has become more frequent so the route and timetable has been adjusted to reflect this. We are very proud that we can offer such an extensive service connecting all industrial, commercial and residential neighbourhoods within Wexford town and are confident that the new routes will encourage more of the local community to take the bus.” Commented Brendan Crowley, Managing Director, Wexford Bus.
An outline of the route is shown above. The service will operate Monday to Saturday and there will be up to 41 service per day. For more details please see www.wexfordbus.com, contact the office on 053 9142742 or simply jump on the bus and go for a spin around town!
