HGV MECHANIC (full time positions)

Wexford Bus operates a growing network of public buses on a 24/7 basis, we also provide an expanding number of contracted public and private coach and bus services.

Wexford Bus is looking for qualified HGV mechanics to join our technical team who take care of our fleet of over 45 modern coaches and buses.  Based at our maintenance facility at Drinagh, Wexford, these positions are open to both female and male candidates.

Our team is committed to a programme of continuous development.  As part of that team the successful candidate will be supported to acquire the necessary knowledge to meet new and evolving technical standards associated with modern public service vehicles.

The position requires a flexible and dynamic approach, willingness to work early mornings and weekends on a rotation basis and to provide out of hours on-call cover to deal with emergencies.

Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills are a prerequisite for the successful candidates along with the skill set as outlined below:

  • Qualified HGV Mechanic, however, consideration will also be given to registered apprentices who have already successfully completed at least three years of their formal training.
  • Good electrical knowledge and ability to read diagrams/schematics.
  • Good communication skills essential.
  • Good diagnostic capability, knowledge of modern diagnostic equipment.
  • Must hold a full driving licence (category C minimum, category D desirable).
  • A flexible, positive attitude towards work. Must be available for weekend work and prepared to work flexible hours.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • An ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Can follow clear instructions and fluent spoken and written English is essential.

Responsibilities will include maintaining vehicle functionality by conducting inspections, carrying out fault diagnosis, service, and maintenance/repair on fleet whilst keeping all vehicle records updated. organising & defining tasks with minimal supervision in adherence to correct working procedures, highlighting any errors or safety issues promptly to Management. Participating fully in any Lean Development Projects or continuous improvement initiatives and embracing new methods of working and training.

Due to the continuous expansion of Wexford Bus we are growing our team of professional coach and bus drivers. Using our fleet of the most modern coaches and buses, Wexford Bus operates an extensive network of national and local scheduled services and also provides for school transport, private hire and contracted services.

As a public transport provider, we operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Applicants will be required to work weekends, early morning, daytime, evening and night shifts and must be available for at least 40 hours per week.

Applicants must be in possession of a full D category EU Driving license, Driver CPC card (with all relevant driver modules up to date) and Digital Tachograph card.  These drivers will be based from Wexford or Gorey.
