Operations Controller with Wexford Bus

We are recruiting for an Operations Controller to Join our Control Room Team

Job Title:

Operations Controller.

Purpose:

To assist in effectively managing the delivery of a punctual and reliable service to all customers.

Job Description:

Wexford Bus operates a growing network of public buses on a 24/7 basis. We also provide a growing number of contracted and public and private coach and bus services.  Using the latest technology, our Control Room Team manages our operation from our Support Centre at Drinagh in Wexford.

As a team member the successful candidate will gain experience in all aspects of our business working with all stakeholders to ensure that we deliver a first-class public transport system.

The position requires a flexible and dynamic approach, willingness to work evenings and weekends on a rotation basis and to provide out of hours on-call cover to deal with customer emergencies.

As this is a key developmental position.  The successful candidate must possess a good standard of education, excellent written and verbal communication skills and possess the necessary IT skills to allow them to perform the range of duties as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Supported by our Training and Development Team you will receive ongoing access and support to education to ensure that you grow with our company. This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to acquire experience, education and a qualification in the public transport sector which will experience massive growth as part of our country’s reaction to climate change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Being professional and friendly with customers and colleagues
  • With the assistance of a suite of technology, monitoring bus services to ensure that they are meeting customers expectation and are operating as scheduled
  • Dynamically deploying resources and initiating corrective action if service disruptions or capacity issues arise.
  • Rerouting services in cases of disruptions due to road closures or diversions from incidents suchas events, accidents or road works.
  • Liasing with the Transport Manager to ensure that Drivers’ Hours Regulations, health and safety rules and other relevant legislation is observed.
  • Ensuring that there is a clear record of any out of the ordinary events or incidents that take place during service.
  • Working with the drivers and maintenance team if fleet or equipment issues arise during service to ensure that normal service resumes as quickly possible. 
  • Assisting customers in a helpful and timely manner as part of the operations team
  • Managing the Operations Centre at weekends on a rotational basis

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills are a prerequisite for the successful candidates along with the skill set as outlined below:

  • Experience of operational oversight and or customer service in a fast-paced environment;
  • Transport Manager qualification or an interest in obtaining this qualification an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer service focused approach. The ability to communicate clearly and precisely when writing reports and emails, when working with colleagues and on phone communications;
  • Good computer and numeracy skills
  • To be comfortable with new technology and able to work quickly and accurately on computerised systems
  • A flexible, positive attitude towards work.  Must be available for weekend work and prepared to work flexible hours;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • An ability to work effectively as part of a team;
  • An ability to prioritise own workload and multitask;
  • To be a good decision maker, confident and quick to learn
  • Must hold a full driving licence.
